Cuyahoga County
General contractor in Bentleyville, Ohio
Inspections by SAFEbuilt, not a village inspector on staff. 24-hour notice.

Permit
The deskDo not schedule an inspection with the Village Hall number — it is SAFEbuilt, and they want the permit number.
Next door
A different clerkThe rule in the next village is not the rule here. Read both pages.
Bentleyville inspections run through SAFEbuilt. The rest of the work looks like the valley: kitchens, decks, additions on wooded lots. The difference is who shows up with a clipboard and which number you dial the day before.
We write the inspection phone on the schedule. We do not write Village Hall as the inspector.
SAFEbuilt’s window is morning and early afternoon with a lunch break. A 4:00 p.m. request is the next day. The permit number on the call is the permit number on the card. “The deck on Cannon” is not a number.
Outdoor work is where households get surprised. A driveway, a fence, a shed, a pool — permit-territory until the village says otherwise. We ask before we treat a Saturday pad as invisible. Planning & Zoning is for variances and lot changes, not for skipping a deck permit.
The Village uses the 2019 Residential Code of Ohio. That edition is the one on the inspector’s book until the village says otherwise. Building Official and Village Hall numbers are for plans and questions. They are not the inspection desk. Cannon Road and Chagrin River Road are geography. The permit number is the thing SAFEbuilt will ask for, twice.
Housing stock
Wooded residential lots, smaller than Hunting Valley, less historic than Chagrin Falls Village. Houses are later than the Falls core: gypsum, attached garages, decks that look simple and still need a permit. Outdoor work is the trap — fences, sheds, driveways, pools.
River lots have drainage. A basement finish without a moisture line is the same mistake as in Moreland Hills, with a different inspector answering the phone.

Permit path in Bentleyville
Plans go to Village Hall. Inspections do not. SAFEbuilt inspects: 440-399-0850, 7:45 a.m.–noon and 1:00–3:45 p.m., 24-hour notice, permit number required. Calling Village Hall to schedule an inspection is how you lose a day.

Permit note. Do not schedule an inspection with the Village Hall number — it is SAFEbuilt, and they want the permit number.
What is not true next door
Moreland Hills inspects with its own desk and closes the third Wednesday. Bentleyville outsources the inspection and wants the permit number on the call. Chagrin Falls is historic. Bentleyville is not, unless the house happens to be. Do not borrow a Falls ABR story for a Cannon Road deck.
